Surfing legend Kelly Slater talks about his brand OuterKnown and their recent collaboration with Nylon manufacturer ECONYL. ECONYL produce Nylon based materials using recycled fishing nets to create fabrics that ecologically sound. This is and interesting step for OuterKnown as they seem intent on pushing the boundaries and awareness on how our clothes are made, where our clothes are made, and more importantly what they are made out of and how that impacts the environment around us. With the projected quantity of plastic in our oceans to reach the same, by weight, as the amount of fish by 2050, this approach marks a seemingly important step in how we think about fashion.
