Skate shoes and more
Distancing themselves from sportswear brands that have seeped into the industry, Hours is Yours takes design inspiration from shoes such as penny loafers and boat shoes rather than rehashing old trainer designs and adapting them for skateboarding. In fact, unlike most other skate shoe brands, Hours is Yours also offers shoes that are not designed for skating at all.
With designs such as their Cohiba Loafers which feature genuine dress-shoe sole units, Hours give you the option to not only look great on your board but also offer shoes that help you look suave and sophisticated when seeing the in-laws. They do of course offer court-inspired silhouettes too, but when you look through their catalogues, it's clear that the word 'sporty' is never used in the design meetings. In fact, in an interview a few years ago, Dennis stated:
“After many years in the Skate and Footwear industry, I always wanted to create a casual yet functional footwear brand inspired by past and present styles. I remember this photo of the Gonz in Paris wearing a pair of Penny Loafer Doc’s way back, and that was one of the first styles I wanted to make. I look forward to paying it forward to the next generation of skaters who put in the hours for their passion of Skateboarding.”
Between Bryan and Dennis, over 15 years of experience in shoe design and marketing is shared between them. Not only that, they both entered and established themselves within the skate industry when it was in a much different epoch from where we are now.
A fresh approach to skate shoe design
Skater-owned companies such as Emerica and Supra were both crushing it, and funnily enough, this was whilst Bryan Herman was one of the biggest names skating (as well as designing his pro shoes) for Emerica and Dennis Martin was managing and shooting the skate team for Supra. With this in mind, I think it's safe to say these two have a very solid idea as to what they want Hours is Yours to be. Sleek and simple designs matched with skate technology such as their incredible 'GODDESS' insoles, which have been designed to keep your feet protected from large impacts and long skates.
Similar to their shoe design, Hours is Yours has an incredibly well-thought-out team. Obviously, there is Bryan Herman, but you also have skaters such as John Dilo, Gage Boyle and Kevin Braun repping the shoes. All four of these dudes not only rip, but they also possess that special something when it comes down to style, both on and off the board. They just manage to look cool regardless of what they are doing, and that's exactly what the shoes have been designed to accomplish too!
