Reef is a brand of sandals that was founded in 1984 by brothers Fernando and Santiago Aguerre when they moved from their native Argentina to La Jolla California. Reef quickly became immersed in the surf and beach culture that was exploding in southern California at the time and built a reputation for quality stylish sandals. Now the brand is one of the worlds leading sandals manufacturers, having built a huge presence in the footwear market thanks to clever marketing campaigns and the endorsement of top surfers such as Rob Machado and Mick Fanning. Mick Fanning also designed Reef’s best selling sandal models that carries his name. Simply called “The Fanning”, it was the first sandal to feature an airbag in the heel for comfort and a unique bottle opener design in the outsole.
